Domestic telecom gear maker Tejas Networks on Thursday announced that it's been selected by Bharti Airtel to reinforce the telecom operator's optical network capacity in key metropolitan markets. Shares of Tejas Networks surged 5% in early deals to ₹415 per share on the BSE.
Tejas will supply, install and support its optical transmission products for extending Airtel's optical networks towards the sting , supporting 5G backhaul, business-to-business (B2B) services and broadband applications
"Airtel has been making significant investments in expanding its metro network capacity as a part of its 5G readiness and for catering to increased bandwidth consumption by fixed-line and enterprise customers. We are delighted to partner with Tejas during this key network intervention which will enable us to deliver world-class experience to our customers," Bharti Airtel chief technology officer Randeep Sekhon said within the statement. Bharti Airtel shares were trading with marginal gains in early deals
"We are delighted to expand our decade-long partnership with Airtel, which has established itself together of the premier telecom service providers within the world. Under this new contract, we'll provide our multi-terabit TJ1600 DWDM/OTN products to reinforce Airtel's metro network capacity right up the network edge," Tejas Networks director and CEO Sanjay Nayak said.
Tejas Networks designs, develops and sells networking products to telecommunications service providers, internet service providers, utilities, defence and government entities in over 75 countries. The Tata Group recently acquired a controlling stake in Tejas for ₹1,890 crore.
