Rushdie is well known for his books and in 1988, his original piece of work — “ The Cacodemonic Verses ” — resulted in a number of death threats on the grounds of blasphemy. He was severely criticized for the content and Iran’s late leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini even issued a fatwa.
